Recently installed Windows 7 64bit on this Tecra. Clean install (removed partitions and let Windows create new). Ran all updates and installed all new drivers posted (thank you for keeping those up to date). All is well except sound does not work. The system shows that all is working (meters rise when music files are played). Tried everything I could think of (uninstalled drivers, flashed bios, reboot over and over, installed all pathes). I even booted the system in Ubuntu 8.10 x86 32bit and the sound does not work under that operating system either.
I did see a post about this problem when going up from XP. I also see on the download page a similiar patch for this problem when going to Vista.
I can not think of what do next. Please advise. Need my tunes while working.
Thanks in advance. Daniel Sirk

Jerry_Lippey. you mention in a previous response a seqeunece for install of drivers.
I did not follow your list when I built by system. Before I spend a few hours - what is your read.
Chipset software
Display driver
Sound driver
Modem Driver
If your machine has the internal WiFi card, then install the WLAN driver
ACPI Common Modules
Toshiba Console
Display Hotkey utility
Touchpad Driver
Toshiba Power Saver Utility
Toshiba Controls
Toshiba Utilities
Also - did you get question like this back in your IBM days?

Ah, silly question, but is the volume dial on the front turned up?
It's probably not an analog dial anymore, but still might make a difference.

Yes, the dial is recognized by windows and controls volume setting and when pushed turns mute on/off.
Still no sound produced by speakers or headset.

I don't want to open a new thread, anyway I hope to get an answer for my/our problem.
I've got the exact same problem with Tecra A9 PTS52E.
Removed/reinstalled various "Realtek High Definition Audio" drivers (3 or 4 in numbers):
- newest driver from Toshiba for Vista
- newest driver from Toshiba for WinXP
- newest driver from the official Realtek homepage R2.34
I can't tell you the order of the driver installation because Windows itself made most of the work (a great feature in my opionion), I had just 3 hardware pieces left: Flash Media Driver, Bluetooth & HDD Protection Utility.
Now, the sound is not working.
I can mute/unmute the speaker symbol / the sound with the fn+ESC combination.
When something tries to make sounds I can see activity in the volume control but I CAN'T HEAR IT!
I haven't upgraded to Win7, it's full reinstallation of Win7 Professional.
I hope anyone could help us.
Thank you!

Same problem here. Tecra-A8 running Windows 7 and sound doens't work even though all sound components look good in device manager etc.

Try running this Toshiba utility that was used in Windows Vista upgrades.

For my situation running Windowws 7 32bit I just looked at the Toshiba Tecra-A8 model site and low and behold they have an update for realtek audio drivers. I installed it and I now have sound working!
