Toshiba T115-S1105 Sound very weak

Is there a way to improve the sound of the T115? The Conexant Pebble drivers (and speakers) do not to provide a minimum level of sound even when the system is set at maximum volume.

Is Toshiba releasing new drivers? The volume level for this unit is unacceptable. I will need to carry a headset around until this problem is fixed.

Thanks.

PS: btw, I've already checked the 'loudness' in the Conexant driver setting, but the improvement is minimal.

Re: Toshiba T115-S1105 Sound very weak

[ Edited ]

I agree! I just got my new T115-S1105 and the sound quality on the internal speakers is virtually impossible to hear! I spent the last hour assuming I had a defective laptop, but then I read your post. External ear jack works fine. . . .

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

I will add: all sound film files I had embedded inside of Powerpoint no longer have sound. The film clips work from inside media player, but not from inside Powerpoint.

Re: Toshiba T115-S1105 Sound very weak

Hi, can you make a quick review about the T115 - S1105. I am buying it but wanna here the pros and cons... now I know about the sound. Hopefully there will be a way to make a better performance of it. But, how´s the rest of the Laptop? Good buy?

Thanks!

Re: Toshiba T115-S1105 Sound very weak

Raul,

Overall the notebook is great. I love the screen and the size of the notebook (and weight).

For the price it's a step up of a netbook. I've been debating between the t115 and the nb205. The nb205 is awesome, but the Windows 7 starter and other limitations (smaller screen, DDR2 memory instead of DDR3, etc.) made me decide on the T115. Note that the NB205 has the same 'audio' issues that this unit has (very low volume). I hope Toshiba solve the problem.

As far as performance, it seems to work fine, I was able to play 720p video without problems. I did  a PASSMARK test for this unit (with the SU2700) and I got an overall of 314, which is not great, but ok. Slightly above the netbooks

The Keyboard is also ok, not as nice as the nb205, but I got used to it, and now  I can type very quick.

I also like that the notebook is quite silent, and the battery seems to last forever. I've been able to work (on/off) more than a day without needing to charge it... I also like the eco utility that optimizes the use of the battery, and in my perfomance tests seem  not to affect the performance.

There are 2 big drawbacks, the buttoms of the touchpad are clunky (so I use the tap to select an item), and the volume of the unit. If they had solved this 2 issues, this notebook would be a total killer considering the price point.

I will see if I put something more complete on Amazon when I have a break. Let me know if you have specific questions.

Re: Toshiba T115-S1105 Sound very weak

I recently ordered this laptop from amazon.com.  I noticed in the store that the sound volume was very low so I'm interested in a fix as well.  Also, I'd like to hear some reviews from current owners.  I searched the web but there arent' any reviews posted yet (from what I could tell).  Thanks,

Kevin

Re: Toshiba T115-S1105 Sound very weak

Think I solved it.

Let me give you the answer and then tell you how I came to the conclusion:

Solution:

1.    Make sure to update windows 7 with all of the latest updates and even optional ones etc.

2.    Go to device manager under control panel

3.    Under sound devices uninstall Conexant Pebble driver and check box delete so it completely removes it from your laptop. (don’t worry you can reload it from the support website anytime)(don’t delete or uninstall the other sound hdmi driver)

4.    Restart the computer and it should work well with the new windows 7 high definition audio device driver.

History:

1.    As you know the volume was really weak. Mine could barely be heard.

2.    I tried everything I know. Things to look for. 1) Make sure the volume is set at 100% and the 2) app volume is also set at 100%. 3) If it is low then maybe the device has an external volume control that you need to raise. The T115 does not. 4) Last if this all does not work check the sound software. Sometimes it is set in the wrong mode for instance it is set for surround sound utilizing headphones rather than for the speakers you have. I checked and it was set for dual speakers. Nothing wrong. 5) I knew there was an issue still because if you go under mixer control the speakers green bar never reached above 30% even though you set it for 100%. If you look you will see the application volume such as windows player reaching 100%

3.    Called tech support reinstalled the driver and it worked better but still weak and was not happy after I told him everything so they said they would call back within an hour with a more technical person.

4.    Within an hour the tech called. Told her everything so she said to try to load the latest driver from tech sport. We tried and no improvement, told her about the green bar which means that the speakers are not reaching their potential. Nothing we can do that’s the way it mixes.

5.    Finally after getting off with them, thought further and just removed the driver they recommended thought this should solve the problem and I was right. The Conexant Pebble driver I think is built for a more sophisticated set of speakers. These are just simple stereo speakers.

6.    Only problem is I have not tested everything else to see if it has affected other functions that relate to sound. However I don't think it should.  But it does work much better and is comparable to what I expected from stereo laptop speakers.

Good to know.  Thanks for the info.  I'll give it a shot when mine finally arrives.
