no cd drive available

I am having a problem with the cd rom drive on my m4. I recently bought a replacement for an old one, and when i installed it i can't find it anywhere on my system. when i restart my system it says "Select Bay Error." the drive i bought is a panasonic uj-840, which is the same one that was in my laptop before. Another thing is when i have the computer search for new hardware, all it finds is a new printer. This is odd considering i don't have a printer connected at all. I think it's recognizing the cd rom drive as a printer. Can someone please help me out??? I don't know what to do.

Re: no cd drive available

Toshiba's tend to be picky about what CD and DVD drives can be installed in them.  For the most part if it wasn't purchased from Toshiba wasn't taken out of a Toshiba it probably won't work in one.  For some reason Toshiba likes to use a customized firmware on the CD and DVD drives that is different from the ones that you get from the drive manufacturers and if the bios doesn't detect this specific firmware it won't recognize the drive.
