Laptop: Toshiba Satellite A305-S6872
Model: PSAG8U-02E018
Has VGA output jack (does not have s-video)
Graphics card: Intel GMA 4500MHD (integrated)
TV: RCA 37” Widescreen (bought in 2004) (this is not hdmi or vga output)
Has Component video jacks (red, blue, green)
Has Composite Video jacks (red, white, yellow)
Has S-video jack
Toshiba told me to buy the Geffen video output cable that has the vga plug on one end and the red, blue, and green wire on the other end. I hooked this up to the TV and at one point I got a picture on the TV but it was very distorted and in black and white. After messing with settings on laptop I got colored distorted picture. And after a while I just did not get a signal. I also changed the input on the TV and tried it on all the different types of inputs. Is there something specific i need to change on the laptop setting for the picture to come up in color and be clear? I tried both the composite and component jacks.
I also never got any sound whatsoever.
Please help.

No prob!! I have the same problem. There's a product that Radio Shack carries that will solve your problem. It costs about $100.00. I didn't buy it yet because I'm trying to see if I can find it someplace cheaper. To be honest with you, most likely you won't find it any place other than Radio Shack because of the constant change in technology the TV's that you and I have are becoming relics. On most up to date TV's or flat screens have serial port connections (HDTV) as do your laptop.
On the box there’s a picture of the item of course, on one end a there’s a cable with a USB connection, and on the other end there's a small square box about the size of a mouse (PC mouse) w/RCA connectors on the side. Or you can just ask the store attendant for it. Hope you have Radio Shacks where you live. Hope that helps!! Good luck!

I tried again yesterday and had a bit of better luck but still not usable. I lowered the resolution though the graphics properties and that allowed me to get a picture on the TV. BUT colors were messed up...white was black, blue was green, etc and there was a pink tinge. The laptop screen was also multiplied 3 times on the TV.
Do you have a link on the Radio Shack website for the device you are talking about?

You need something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-VGA2CPNT-Component-
Not sure why the bare cable was suggested, don't think I've ever heard of one working on a Toshiba.
