Qosmio G35-AV600 TV Tuner: How to set it up for PAL?

I read that I can set up my Qosmio TV Tuner for PAL signals rather than NTSC. As I am in Argentina, I would like to know how can I do that if anyone knows.

Many thanks.

Re: Qosmio G35-AV600 TV Tuner: How to set it up for PAL?

The two TV standards, PAL and NTSC are totally different and not cross compatible. The US standard, NTSC, uses a different frame rate, number of lines and signal frequency than PAL. PALis used in Europe and South America and became a standard after NTSC. So the TV tuner hardware made for NTSC will not work in a country that uses PAL. The other problem is that the Qosmio G35 uses the Media Center Edition (MCE) software that is looking for an NTSC-compatible signal, so the software won't be compatible either. The bad news is that you will not be able to use your Qosmio G35 in South America as a TV set.

The worse news is that in June 2009, the United States, after over 50 years, has left NTSC for the new digital standard of ATSC. So the Qosmio G35 won't work in the US as a TV set unless you have the computer attached to a cable box or a digital to analog converter.

Re: Qosmio G35-AV600 TV Tuner: How to set it up for PAL?

It is a shame because I have read here (http://www.streetdirectory.com/travel_guide/158920/laptops/a_review_of_toshibas_qosmio_laptop.html) that was possible to configure it.

I should have done more research before buying a latopo.

Many thanks.

This press release mentions -

"Qosmio PCs share a common platform that allows them to integrate powerful hardware and software solutions. The former include a proprietary TV tuner that Toshiba can factory-configure for use with the NTSC, PAL or SECAM. Qosmio also boasts state-of-the-art video and audio technologies that realize high-grade image reproduction and superb sound quality."

So maybe there is a way.  Have you looked in BIOS?  Or the video driver settings?  Maybe it is a internal jumper or switch?  Just guessing...
