Wow. This is the exact problem I'm having. Loss of output audio device and the white horizontal lines on the password screen.

I also get the white horizontal lines if I have a regular user that tries to install something and the administrator password request window comes up.

I have a Satellite: P205D-S7802 with the X1200 graphics and Realtek HD Audio. I upgraded from the 2GB RAM to 4GB and did a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit. I ran the Toshiba Software installer and still had the issue. I than downloaded and installed from Toshiba the video driver and audio driver individually and still have the same issue.

I have not tried going down to 3GB but I'll give it a try. I hope there's a fix so I can use the full 4GB otherwise what's the point of using 64-Bit.

Re: Satellite A215-s5824 windows 7 Standby Problems?

On a clean install of windows 7 64-bit business with 2GB (1x2Gb) ram the realtek sound dropping out and video corrupt after waking from sleep mode both disappeared. Installed a 1GB stick afterwards in addition to the 2GB stick for 3GB total and all is still working well, no problems of no sound device or corrupt video after resume from sleep. This is on A215-S4767 unit psaegu. Bios version 2.0, 64 bit, realtek sound and touch chip fingerprint reader drivers from the support site. For the card reader I used the restore dvd TI card reader logo. Video driver is ATI 8-12 vista64 driver from ATI site(v.8.561). I also installed the "Toshiba value added package x64..." optional update from the windows update site before I tested sleep mode.

Waiting to see what happens with 4 GB.

Thanks for the testing.

Re: Satellite A215-s5824 windows 7 Standby Problems?

Having exactly the same issues...

Clean install Win 7 64 bit on A215-S5837

White lines on login screen after going to sleep mode.  Sound doesn't work when returning from sleep mode.  In some cases, the computer will freeze and require forced power down.  Saw the same issues in the release candidate as well.

I have done all the updates I can find on the Toshiba website for my model.  One thing wouldn't run though - something that was recommended for clean install of windows 7: Toshiba Software Installer - I downloaded and ran that, and the error message that comes up is: "This unit is not manufactured by Toshiba or the BIOS is not Windows 7 compliant.  No updates will occur." So, other than that, I'm not sure what else to look at.

Re: Satellite A215-s5824 windows 7 Standby Problems?

Removed 1gb ram and replaced w/2gb stick for a 2x2GB=4GB installed ram. Awakening from sleep mode no audio device was found, however the video was not corrupted. Shut down and went back to 1GB+2GB=3GB ram. Akakening from sleep mode the realtek audio still worked and video was not corrupted. With PAE extensions on the turion64 CPU with 32 bit O/S's like xp or vista the machine reads 3.37 GB when 4GB is installed, while it "sees" approx. 3.8 with 64 bit O/S's, I do not think PAE works on 64 bit systems. Still seems odd that the machine specification calls for 4GB max but the sleep problems remedy themselves with 3GB installed. I still wonder if the event log is telling me the CPU has a hand in this. It has always given an event ID 18 message on vista 32 clean installs, xp pro 64 bit installs and now I see the same message on windows 7 32 or 64 bit.

Re: Satellite A215-s5824 windows 7 Standby Problems?

So on my P205D-7802 I changed from 4GB RAM down to 3GB RAM and all seems to be good now. No loss of output audio device and no white horizontal lines.

Re: Satellite A215-s5824 windows 7 Standby Problems?

Thanks, Jerry, for compiling this list, and thanks to all for the detailed troubleshooting reports.

If you are experiencing the symptom of losing audio after returning from Standby, and if that problem can be resolved by 1) rebooting, 2) going in and out of Hibernate (rather than Standby), or 3) reducing total system RAM to 3GB or less -- then please send me a private message with the following info:

About your laptop

  • full model number (e.g. Satellite A215-S4757)
  • first 6 characters of model Part Number (e.g. PSAEGU)
  • serial number
  • amount of installed RAM (when experiencing the problem)
  • if you've tested after reducing system RAM to 3GB or less, please indicate the results
  • Windows 7 version (32-bit or 64-bit)

Note: the first three bullets above are available from a sticker on the bottom of the laptop.

About you (optional)

  • daytime phone number
  • email address
