I registered for the program on July 20th. Since Windows 7 is out as of today, when should we get our upgrade? Also, is recieving the upgrade on a first-come-first-serve basis? Thanks.

No one knows the answer to either question for sure. The last time this happened (from XP to Vista) some people didn't get their disks for over 6 months after the official release of Vista, although about 2 months after the official release is more likely. I wouldn't hold you breath expecting it to arrive in the next week or so.

From what I rea, Toshiba said itwould be mailed within 60 days of street launch (Oct. 22nd). But with recent experience with Toshiba and deadlines, then yeah, best to set up camp and prepare for a long wait.

Or 60 days from the date of a valid Proof Of Purchase is received if submitted after October 22nd. But like I said, when the XP to Vista free upgrade program was running it took some people over 6 months to get their disks and the same 60 days used then as well. This wasn't just Toshiba either. This was industry wide and I don't expect it to be any different this time.

Wow. It's gonna take that long?!!!??!! That stinks. I bought a Toshiba laptop (loving it so far) and was hoping to have Windows 7 soon after launch....now it's looking like 2 months? I don't want to pay 120 for the retail version. I wish I was still a student....I could just take advantage of the $30 for students offer.
So there's no info as to when it'll be mailed out????

I know what you mean. That's why I went to one of the Microsoft NewEssential's Meetings on Tuesday. It wasn't that interesting overall as I was stuck in the Developers Conference but I did get a free copy of Se7en Ultimate. Unfortunately it's only the 32bit version as they took the 64bit disk out of the package, but at least I have it.
One of the other cool things there was an actual production laptop that has it's bios and WIndows Se7en so optimized that it boots from a totally off state to fully loaded in about 20 seconds. Resuming from Standby takes about 2 seconds. Hopefully Toshiba will be able to do the same on their systems in the near future.

Yeah. I hear Windows 7 is great. I can't wait to install it.
Actually, my girlfriend might have an edu address since she graduated 2 years ago. If so then I'll just order a copy for $30 and give her my copy when I receive it.
Definitely want to get the 64 bit version.
That's insanely fast. Vista is slow to start up and my computer is practically brand new. I just can't wait to free up all the memory that Vista hogs up.

The disk you'll get from Toshiba will more than likely only install on a Toshiba system. If she has a different brand it might not work. I know that's how it has worked in the past. They place a key in the install routine that checks the bios to verify the manufacturer of the laptop before it installs. I'm not guaranteeing that this is the case, but I am 99.44% certain that it will.

The Windows 7 Upgrade Option program media starts shipping 10/30/09 on a first-in, first-out basis. The position in the queue is based on the date that proof of purchase is delivered and confirmed, not when the initial order/registration occurs... The point being that it would be possible to place an order, for example, on Aug 1 but not send in proof of purchase until Oct 20. In that case, Oct 20 would be queue up date.
I'll just add that the program is immensely popular and there's a big backlog, but many thousands will be shipping weekly and only those who ordered most recently would be expected to be waiting as long as 60-days.
