I have seen several posts on the same issue but they are different then mine. I have a x205 and have kept up with updates but some for whatever reason failed to install. I have tried install by Windows Update, stand alone, and while in Safe Mode. I have a couple weird little things going on. Can't turn on the WIndows Firewall, even by going to the advanced admin screen. The first time I tried to do the install, on reboot it went into check sum repair mode and spent some time repairing files. Also, I tried to check the disks, schedule the check disk at start up and it doesn't do it. I know I haven't got a virus, I am running Prevx, Online Armor, Windows Security. I uninstalled Online Armor because I thought that was locking a file, but still can't install. What happens is it does all the 3 steps with the reboots and everything is at 100% and it sits at stage 3 at 100% for awhile and finally says that the service pack did not install and reverts the files. Is it because of the Toshiba partition? I also ran System File Checker and it says there are some corrupt files and see the CBS file. Which I checked and is 20 MB! I really don't want to have to reinstall Vista. I contracted MS support and am waiting on them. I have had this laptop for 2 years and have software on here that I am afraid I will not be able the find the Key numbers for. Worse case scenario, the computer works fine and I may have to forego Service Pack 2, but any suggestions are welcome. CBS is too large to attach.

Run Belarc Advisor and print out the results. That will show you ALL of the product and license keys for all of the installed software.
I recommend downloading and running MalwareBytes Anti Malware. It's free and won't interfere with your alrready installed AV software. It's amazing the things it finds that regular AV software let's through.
I can't help with the rest of the problem. That's Jerry_Lippey's area of expertise.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

Thanks cee, I will try that program. And I ran that malware program, I am clean. I use Prevx which is like it, just looks for just about everything. I was going to attach the CBS file but its too big.

It took buying a copy of Vista Home Premium SP1 and installing it as an upgrade to restore the system files that were corrupt. I was told by the escalated Vista Service Pack support that I could borrow someone's Vista SP1 Home Premium disk and it would be ok because I would be still using my OEM Product Activation Code. WRONG. I did buy a copy and used it to fix the corrupt system files and it wanted a new activation number after. A call to the activation number support and they said I needed to use the new software activation code, because it was not the same product. Oh well, fully up to date to SP2 and running great. What you do is after you get the disk, while the computer is already booted up, click install and then upgrade. Took a LONG time. Probably 8 hours to get it reinstalled and then do 66 updates before I could do SP2, then there are a few more updates after that, but I recommend it if you want to keep what you have and not reinstall everything.

Thank you for coming back to report all that. Repair installs in Vista (in contrast to Windows XP) must be made from a running Windows as you did.
