I'm getting a message on my L300-ST2501 laptop (running Vista) that says something to the effect that the file c:\Windows\system32\mshtml.dll contains a bad image. When I look at the properties for this particular file, the file name is listed in my system 32 files, but it contains 0 bytes. I don't know how this could have happened. I can no longer access the internet. My dad copied this same file from his XP machine onto a flash stick and I attempted to load it into my system 32 files. However, apparently I don't have administrator rights to make any adjustments to these files. How do I fix this problem?

mshtml.dll contains a bad image. When I look at the properties for this particular file, the file name is listed in my system 32 files, but it contains 0 bytes.
First thing to try is System File Checker.
It's likely that will not take care of the problem. If not, don't try to use the file from Windows XP!
I have attached the correct file to a message in CompuServe's Laptop Computing Forum. See my message Mshtml.dll from 32-bit Vista SP2.
Those system files are protected. You must boot into Safe Mode in order to fiddle with them. In this case, you may need to boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt (because the file may be in use by the GUI) and use the DOS-like commands to change it.
Advanced startup options (including safe mode)
Please some back here for more help if you have trouble.
Good luck!
