Windows Vista & Windows XP

Somehow I think I have a registry error. To open a link, clicking on it does nothing. I have to right click and open link in a new window. Can I reload XP from somewhere to correct this? XP was already installed on my mini note book when I bought it so I don't have the installation disc. I'm not a computer geek but can follow simple directions. Help !!
