I just bought my laptop today and I know hardly anything about computers. How do I connect to the internet?

Are you connecting using dial up or wireless?

Re: Just bought Laptop today and need help

Typically you pay an Internet Service Provider (ISP) to provide a connection.

There are dial up connections which use your phone line.

There are broadband connections of several flavors, the most common of which are via your Cable company (a cable modem) or phone company (called DSL)  In some areas DSL may be provided by a company that isn't your phone company, but the signal still comes via the phone wires.

If you really don't know how to get onto the internet, maybe you might want to look into a basic computer intro class at a local community college?

Re: Just bought Laptop today and need help

Generally, when you purchase an internet service, when the tech arrives and installs the line and modem for you, they will leave instructions or some companies will do an initial setup for you. Once the line is in and modem is powered up you can click the icon [large E] or look for Internet Explorer, click and be taken to a home page. It is simple to achieve, review your toshiba guide and even go to HELP & SUPPORT on the START menu and do a query say 'setup internet/email'.
