Portege M400 4034 that I purchased with Win XP. I had problems with a data interface ! in device manager (All USB ports worked). I finally upgraded to Vista 32 using the instructions step-by-step from the download section for this model. All drivers seemed fine and the ! in the device manager was fixed. I would get freezes on start up about 10% of the time on Vista.
So I decided to do the Windows 7 upgrade. I kept getting a message during the install that it couldn't complete due to the Toshiba Power Saver drivers; however the uninstall for that would not complete. I deleted the folder in the drivers subdirectory for the power saver and the install ran just fine.
Windows 7 on the Tablet seems to run very well. It is the fastest of the three operating systems I have had on this Tablet. Only problem I am having now is that I get a blue screen crash dump when I power down. This happens every time I power down whether I have an external drive connected or not. It includes the code: BUGCODE_USB_DRIVERS.
I had never seen this in any previous operating system (XP, or Vista) on this computer. Anyone have any advice?
Thanks.

I just installed Win7 on a M400-S933. Not quite the same model that you have, but it should be pretty close.
I did a clean install, but didn't format the drive. So, I have a c:\windows.old directory, and all data is still there, but would have to reinstall applications.
Had to fiddle with the RAID driver to get the install going, but the Vista one from the Toshiba web site worked fine.
No error on shutdown here, so I'd guess that perhaps whatever is causing it on your install is leftover from Vista.
A couple things don't work, but I haven't looked for drivers for them. The fingerprint reader is one. And the memory card reader is the other. The card reader actually looks like it'd work fine for SD, but not for the others that it is supposed to be able to read. I only have a SDHC with me today, so can't really test that since I know it won't work.
