Re: Toshiba Satellite A15-S157 website loading problems

Mystery to me - especially that the browser doesn't matter. I don't have any other ideas. Sorry. Hope when/if you get this one figured out, you'll come back here and tell us.

Re: Toshiba Satellite A15-S157 website loading problems

Have you tried taking the computer to work to see if maybe the ISP, router, gateway, or something is the cause?

I would also try a Linux live CD.  You boot with that and it boots Linux without changing anything.  Then try Firefox under that.  This would us if the problem is in the OS or elsewhere.

Re: Toshiba Satellite A15-S157 website loading problems

Thanks guys.

I did and retested another computer on the ISP gateway and router and all the pages come up as they are supposed to. I'm downloading Ubuntu right now and once I burn the image to a CD, I will let you know if Linux shows the same issue when starting Firefox.

Cheers,

Good, that will be a good test.  If Ubuntu works, then we know that hardware is fine and it is something in Windows.  Maybe a anti-virus or a firewall.  Msconfig might help us narrow things down.

Yes, that will be interesting.

A test we didn't try is to boot into Safe Mode with Networking.

Re: Toshiba Satellite A15-S157 website loading problems

Techman,

After a long day of downloading and installing Unbuntu woked. THANK YOU. All the websites look how they are supposed to right now. It's amazing not to know I'm going crazy. By the way, it's such a clean operating system -  so nice.

I disbaled all my MSCONFIG and restarted Windows. When I opened the browser - it's back to the same old tricks.

I wasn't sure if that what's you meant when you said MSCONFIG might help us narrow things out.

If you can help futher. I'd greatly appreciate it. I feel like we are almost near a solution.

Thanks

Daron

Re: Toshiba Satellite A15-S157 website loading problems

[ Edited ]

I rebooted in safe mode with networking and unfortunately it produced the same results as our issue.

I also updated to Service Pack 3 hoping that Windows may just fix it itself. No luck

Windows is still producing the same website loading issues.

Thanks Jerry. And Techman.

Another test we didn't try is to boot Windows into a newly minted account.

Maybe a little corruption in the ntuser.dat hive.

Re: Toshiba Satellite A15-S157 website loading problems

You said unchecking things in msconfig solved the issue?  If so, start putting the checkmarks back in.  Usually the problem is on the startup tab.  So try adding all the checkmarks except those.  Test.  Then add the ones from that tab back in.  I usually add the top half back in, then test.  Then you know if the issue is in the top or bottom.  Then I take that area and change half of the remaining ones.  Thus I test in smaller and smaller groups, instead of one by one.

What Jerry suggested might help narrow down the problem as well.  (Don't know until we actually find the problem.)
