Windows XP Professional x64

[ Edited ]

Can I Run This Type Of OS On Satellite L305-S5919?

I Only Have 2Gb Ram But I Found Out This Requirements On XP x64.

I've Read This x64 Requirements On Microsoft Site

  • Computer with a supported processor: AMD Athlon 64, AMD Opteron, Intel Xeon with Intel EM64T support, Intel Pentium 4 with Intel EM64T support
  • 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended
  • 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard-disk space (additional space may be required if installing over a network)
  • CD-ROM or DVD drive
  • Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
  • Keyboard, Microsoft Mouse, Microsoft IntelliMouse, or compatible pointing device

My Concern Is On Drivers And Software Compatibilities.

Can I Downgrade Or Should I Stick To Vista?

Thanks A Lot:smileywink:

Satellite L305-S5919

Although the processor supports 64-bit computing, I would not try to put 64-bit Windows XP on that machine. See footnote C1 on the specs at the specs above. Of course, if you have lots of time to spare, there's no harm done.

We do know where to obtain Toshiba drivers and utilities that run under XP for that model.

Re: Windows XP Professional x64

It won't boost the speed at all for ordinary programs. Someday there will be applications written for it that run faster.

The chief benefit is that it can use more memory. 32-bit Windows is limited to a little more than 3 GB.

I ran XP 64bit on my L305-S5933 for a couple of weeks then went back to the 32bit XP.  Since our systems are basically the same you should be able to run it on yours, but as Jerry stated you won't gain anything by doing so.  Any games that are optimized for 64bit are also going to be DX10 or DX11 and NO version of XP supports DX10 or 11m, but then again neither does your graphics chipset. With the hardware you have there will be no advantage to going with ANY 64bit version of windows for gaming.

XP 64 drivers are a LOT more difficult to find (Toshiba doesn't supply ANY of them) so that is another strike against it.  As for software compatability, 16bit programs (and there are a lot more 32bit applications that have 16bit code than most people think) won't run at ALL on 64bit Windows.

And please cut the BS of capitalizing the first letter of every word.  It makes your posts difficult to read (there is a reason why there are strict guidelines for capitalization, punctuation, and sentence/paragraph structure).  It's rude, crude, and socially unacceptable to go out of ones way to make their posts difficult to read, not to mention inconsiderate.

If you actually do want XP then you have a long drawn out process ahead of you as XP doesn't have native SATA drivers and won't install on a SATA drive like that system has without jumping through some hoops.

-------------------8<------------------- <snip> ------------------

You need to make sure that your XP install disk is at least SP1 level or higher for it to recognize a hard drive larger than 137gb in size.  You can integrate SP1, 2, or 3 into your XP Install Disk by using nLite as per this guide.

Because Windows XP doesn't have native SATA support you'll need to do one of two things to install XP on your system.  You'll need to follow this guide to integrate your SATA drivers into your XP Install Disk.  Do yourself a huge favor and use the SATA drivers that they provide.  You can integrate your Service Packs during this procedure as well.

--------------------8<------------------- <snip> ------------------

Install your drivers in this order.
Restart after each driver and take the time to test between drivers.
Some will apply and some won't.

Chipset software
Display driver
Sound driver
Modem Driver
If your machine has the internal WiFi card, then install the WLAN and/or WiFi driver
ACPI Common Modules (required for Power management tools to function)
Toshiba Console
Display Hotkey utility
Touchpad Driver
Touchpad enable/disable utility
Toshiba Network Device Switch utility
Toshiba Power Saver Utility
Toshiba Controls
Toshiba Utilities

Re: Windows XP Professional x64

Sorry for bumping this old thread..Just wanna ask about the steps for using XP OS.

Just finished running "Intel Matrix Storage Manager" and trying to do the next step w/c

is updating Intel ICH8M 3-port,the problem is that I don't see any Intel ICH8M 3-port

only ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI.By the way my current OS is Windows 7 32bit  and I want to

dual boot 'cause my printer isn't compatible w/ Windows 7 OS.Thanks:smileyhappy:

Re: Windows XP Professional x64

Then try the ICH9M-E/M controller.  If that doesn't work then you'll need to use the Integrated Driver Method.  It works a LOT better anyway and the only method I recommend now.
