Re: installing XP to E105-S1602

Satellite E105-S1602

I think you'd have a difficult time locating XP drivers for that model.

Best to stick with Vista or later upgrade to Windows 7.

Re: installing XP to E105-S1602

Jerry is correct on this

The E105-S1602 is an incredible system as the next generation after the E105-S1402.  Since your system is really new, you would loose all those really neat features already installed... Again this does not make sense.  What does make sense is going to Windows 7-64.    It serves no purpose to go back to XP unless it is a business requirement.  If so create a virtual partition and run Window XP out of that partician, but then you have decide wheither to use XP 32 or 64... Sooo, what is the true need here.

Re: installing XP to E105-S1602

I as well must replace Vista on Toshiba E105, because I have software incompatible with Vista or 7. What functionality might I lose by doing so?

Re: installing XP to E105-S1602

Check with Toshiba whether they have BIOS support for your processor's Virtualization Technology.

If yes, probably your best bet is to upgrade to Windows 7 and run its XP Mode.

Jerry and I Agree !!!

Before you replace Vista with XP, have you tried the compatibility mode..

It seems a complete waste to use such an inferior OS like XP in this day and age... Remember the system is not designed for XP-32  it is a Vista 64 OS design and getting all the drivers to work for all the other software is going to be difficult.

Did you consider a Virtual environment...  Which you should first try.  Please Specifically answer this question.

Hi. A friend of mine has installed Win Xp on his e105. We were able to find much of the driver but We still are having difficulties with the FN keys.  We cannot adjust the brightness  of  lcd since we dont have the specific driver of 105 for win xp . How can I solve this problem? is there a chance that Toshiba may distribute the drivers for XP ?

Re: installing XP to E105-S1602

Hank, I've I have stated in the past, the E105-S1602 does NOT have VT support so it can NOT run WIndows 7's XP mode.  The problem is the P7350 cpu which doesn't support VT so no bios update will be able to change it.  If his programs won't run under Vista or Win 7 his only solution is to install XP or purchase a different laptop.

At this point those who have installed XP on this system need to post what drivers they have found that work for them, including a link to download them.  Maybe if enough people post what they are using we will be able to compile a list of all of the necessary drivers.

If you don't bother to post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.
